The impact of drugs on policies and politics in a country varies depending on the cultural and contextual factors. Despite this, there are general ways in which drugs can influence politics. For instance, drug cartels or individuals may use drugs as methods of control and coercion, making policymakers susceptible to bribery. In countries like Mexico, corruption in the government has been observed, with drug trafficking organizations corrupting officials through bribery, extortion, and coercion. This corruption allows a blind eye to be turned to cartel activities.
Illegal drug consumption has global ramifications, influencing not only individuals but also impacting business management. An example of this impact is seen in the "Drug Dealer Model," a business strategy where companies provide small parts of their products for free, aiming to create addicted customers who will later pay for the product. This strategy mirrors the approach of drug dealers in creating addiction.
A cruel reality of society is the implementation of such drug dealer-inspired strategies by businesses, highlighting the struggles individuals face in breaking free from addiction. The implications of illegal drugs are evident in the high number of deaths due to overdoses, particularly with substances like fentanyl. The fentanyl crisis is a pressing issue, with a significant number of Americans succumbing to overdose deaths, and the problem extends to various races, including African Americans. Efforts to address the fentanyl crisis are crucial to reducing the number of victims succumbing to drug overdose.
